Welcome to Sunshine ElectricityBiomass co-generation project The New South Wales Sugar Milling Co-operative and Delta Electricity have been operating a joint venture named Sunshine Electricity to construct and run two 30 MW co-generation facilities on the State’s north coast. Formally it is an unincorporated joint venture between Delta Electricity Australia Pty Limited (DEA) and Sunshine Renewable Energy Pty Limited (SRE), wholly owned subsidiaries of Delta Electricity and the New South Wales Sugar Milling Co-operative respectively.
The plants, located at Condong and Broadwater, will be fuelled primarily by sugar cane material and will operate as power stations owned by Sunshine Electricity within mills owned by the Co-operative. On Friday, 1 July 2005, the joint venture reached financial close on the project. It is anticipated that the completion dates for the Condong and Broadwater co-generation plants will be early 2008 and mid 2008 respectively.
The project will be one of Australia’s largest renewable electricity generation projects and will make a substantial contribution to Australia’s greenhouse commitments. An additional major environmental benefit of the project will be the move to green cane harvesting, avoiding the need for pre and post harvesting cane burning.
